Vaporesso XROS Mini versus Vaporesso XROS

Vaporesso XROS versus Vaporesso XROS Mini

Most adult vapers are looking for a compact and easy to use device. Great flavor and satisfying performance are the top priorities. The Vaporesso XROS and Vaporesso XROS Mini perfectly fulfill this mission. They are easy to use, compact, reliable and have great flavor production. They are two of the best refillable vape pod kits on the market and today we will compare them head-to-head.

Refillable vape pod kits are a great alternative to disposable vapes. They also allow adult vapers to enjoy the flavor profiles they prefer. The popularity of disposable vapes owes much to the federal government banning all flavors but tobacco in pre-filled vape pods.

Adult vapers prefer sweeter flavor profiles. This fact is borne out by sales and was proven in a study of 50,000 vapers by Doctor Konstantinos Farsalinos. Tobacco flavored e-juices simply aren’t as popular with adult vapers as fruit, beverage and dessert e-juices are.

Fans of tobacco nic salts can still benefit from a refillable vape pod kit. There are a lot of savings to be had when switching to a device which is filled with 30ml bottles of salt nic. There are great tobacco salt nics on the market. The XROS and XROS Mini work great with any flavor of e-juice.

Vape Pod Kits

The original generation of refillable vape pods were low wattage devices but the range of vape pod styles has increased dramatically over the years. There are now vape pod kits with swappable coils, large batteries, low resistance coils and even screens that allow you to adjust the wattage. The more powerful vape pod kits can handle max-VG juice just as easily a sub-ohm tank and vape mod combo. The Smok Nord 4 has an RPM SC Coil of 1.0ohms for salt nic juices and sub-ohm coils that take full advantage of its 80 watts output.

With such a wide range of sizes and performance envelopes, it is important to consider what separates a vape pod from a vape mod or a classic e-cig. It isn’t just technology. The entire design philosophy is different. To put it succinctly, vape pod kits use an e-juice filled vape pod instead of a cartomizer or tank with standardized threading.

Every vape pod uses a proprietary pod design. Gone are the days of 505 threading. These pods only fit on that device. There is sometimes cross-compatibility within a device family. The Vaporesso XROS and XROS Mini both use the same pod designs.

Pod Mods

Vape pods with swappable coils, sometimes referred to as Pod Mods or AIO (all-in-one) vapes, often share coils across multiple platforms. The ubiquitous Smok RPM coil is a great example of this. But the plastic refillable pod housing will only fit the one device.

This is great news from the manufacturer’s perspective. Once you are locked in on Smok Novo, you aren’t going to be shopping around for discounted pods. They simply don’t fit. In a way, it fits with the subscription model of recurring orders that is the gold standard for commerce in the 21st century.

But the customer also benefits. Companies are no longer limited to bulky metal tanks or narrow cartomizer designs. Within reason, they can make a pod of almost any size. This allows vape pods to have greater flexibility and wide range of capabilities. It is why a device like the Suorin Air can be nearly identical on paper to a XROS but have a totally different form factor and coil design.

XROS vs. XROS Mini

The Vaporesso XROS and Vaporesso XROS Mini have a lot in common. The small details are going to inform your decision concerning which is a better option. As a starting point, they are compatible with the same pod designs. They have the same wattage output. The safety features and technology underneath the hood is also identical.

The Vaporesso XROS and XROS Mini are both mouth to lung vaping devices. They have a nice restrictive draw that is meant to mimic the resistance provided by a filtered combustible cigarette. The form factor is the same, except for the Mini being smaller. Yet there are some notable differences.

The Vaporesso XROS is 112mm long (4.8 inches), 13mm deep and 23mm wide. The Vaporesso XROS Mini is also 13mm deep and 23mm wide. But it measures in at a diminutive 98.9mm (3.89 inches).

Looking at some of their competition, a Smok Novo 3 is 88mm long. The UWell Caliburn, a direct competitor to the original XROS is 110mm or 4.3 inches. Both use advanced USB-C charging rather than a micro-USB port.

The output for both the XROS and XROS mini is 11 to 16 watts.  They are compatible with the

It is time to examine each device.

Vaporesso XROS

 Vaporesso XROS Specs

The Vaporesso XROS has two major features not found on the Vaporesso XROS Mini. The first of these features is that the Vaporesso XROS can function as both a draw activated, and button fired vape pod kit.

This pits the Vaporesso XROS head-to-head with UWell Caliburn family. These devices resemble each other in form factor. They even use a similar filling design. The mouthpiece is removable, and underneath are two large fill ports. The UWell Caliburn was long considered one of the best vape pod kits around and the Vaporesso XROS Mini was built to take that title.

The airflow control takes the form of a sliding lever. It removes the necessity of covering airflow ports on a vape pod device to get a tighter draw.

None of this would matters if the flavor isn’t there and the pod coils are not long-lasting. Luckily, the quality of the Vaporesso coil design stands up to rigorous comparison and scrutiny. These are durable coils that should get you through half a bottle of nic salts without a huge drop-off in flavor.

When new, the clarity of the vapor flavor is tough to beat. An advantage of a vape pod with an integrated coil is that it is less likely to leak. Overall, a thumbs up for Vaporesso on the pod design and coil performance.

Vaporesso XROS versus UWell Caliburn

The fire button and adjustable airflow allow the XROS to match the UWell Caliburn feature for feature. Most Vaporesso XROS users are probably going to stick with the autodraw, but it is a clever design feature that can change the vaping experience. It also means you can lock the device with 5 clicks.

An advantage of the fire button is that you can ramp up the vaper before inhale. This is not as big of a deal in 2021. Ramp up times are fantastically quick for modern coils.

The airflow control is more likely to get heavy use. On the top of the battery section and just below the pod, the sliding adjuster allows you to really manipulate the airflow of the XROS. This is a lot more graceful that plugging the side airflow on Smok Novo with your thumb.

The reason for the popularity of the original XROS is obvious. Designed to fight the popular UWell Caliburn, it exceeds its venerable foe in most categories. The battery is large, 800mAh versus 520mAh, and it has a higher wattage output.

The original Caliburn tops out at 11 watts. The deciding factor is pod and coil design. The winner in this category battle is subjective, these are similar devices, but many vapers give the Vaporesso the edge in flavor. It certainly has the first generation Caliburn beaten in vapor production. Having dealt with its primary competition from a rival manufacturer, how does the Vaporesso XROS compare with the Vaporesso XROS Mini.

Vaporesso XROS Mini

 Vaporesso XROS Mini Specs

The reason that the Vaporesso XROS Mini is mini is because it has deleted two features from the Vaporesso XROS. It does not have a fire button and it does not have adjustable airflow. But it is not just an XROS with a half inch lopped off. It has a larger battery, 1000mAh versus 800mAh.

The difference between 3.8 and 4.5 inches may not sound like much but it can make a difference when pocket stowage is considered. The XROS is still compact though. If the size difference isn’t a deal breaker, personal preference will boil down to two considerations.

If you have no intention of using the fire button and rely entirely on autodraw when vaping, the XROS Mini is probably the better choice when compared to the XROS. The battery is a full 25 percent, and the performance is identical.

The loss of the adjustable airflow is more likely to impact salt nic vapers, specifically those who really want a tight draw. The good news is that Vaporesso did an excellent job designing the coils and pods. I found there isn’t much room for improvement, but such matters are entirely subjective.

The biggest upgrade between the Vaporesso XROS and Vaporesso XROS Mini benefits both devices. The pod and coil design has been revamped for XROS Mini and it is compatible with both models.

Vaporesso XRos Pods

The Vaporesso XROS comes with two pods. Both have a capacity of 2ml. There is a 0.8ohm mesh pod. This is for max-VG juices and lower strength salt nic juices. The 16-watt output means you aren’t limited to nic salts, although no one is going to mistake an XROS for a box mod. There are powerful vape pod kits like the Smok Novo that are much better for vaping freebase nicotine.

The more popular pod design is a pod that uses a 1.2ohm coil.  This is the classic mouth-to-lung model. Nic salt vaping is what the XROS was built for. It has great flavor and efficiently generates a satisfying hit every time.

Both pod designs use SSS leak-resistant technology. Filling is easy as well. The clam shell top pops off to reveal two fill ports. This is quite like the fill port system found in the UWell Caliburn. The presence of two ports makes filling smooth, in the same way that you punch two holes in an aluminum can of liquid to extract the contents smoothly. The devil is in the details.

Vaporesso XROS Mini versus the Smok Novo 4

Another rival of the Vaporesso XROS Mini is the Smok Novo 4. With adjustable airflow, small size, and swappable coils, it has many features not found on the XROS. The Vaporesso XROS Mini has a bigger battery and slightly lower wattage (16w versus 25w).

The Smok Novo 4 does have adjustable wattage however, so it can be turned down for potent salt nic juices. The Vaporesso XROS Mini demonstrates simplicity is a feature. If you don’t care about the bells and whistles are also likely to gravitate towards the Vaporesso XROS Mini. The XROS has a similar form factor to a Juul or a Puff Bar. The devices serve a very similar purpose. Personal preference hinges on pod/coil availability and personal preference. No two devices are identical, which ever device tastes better to you and have a more comfortable draw is the right choice

Final Thoughts

The Vaporesso XROS Mini is a perfect alternative to a disposable vape or a prefilled vape pod kit. It delivers discrete performance, is a perfect conduit for nic salts and is easy to tote around. That it is almost 25 percent shorter and has a bigger battery is an edge it has on the full-sized XROS.

If you switch between freebase nicotine and salt nic juices, the airflow control makes the original XROS an excellent choice.

If you are a new vaper in search of a starter kit, pared down design and longer battery life of the Vaporesso XROS Mini makes it a perfect choice.

Both of the XROS refillable vape pod kits are excellent choices. There are larger and more powerful designs on the market but in terms of delivering flavor and satisfaction they are at the top of the class.
